Troubleshooting Common Issues
Okay - you're experiencing issues with your theme. Don't fret! A lot of the time, issues are easily remedied with a few checks and updates. Here are some general steps you can take that typically solve many of the problems we see on our support system.
This is a biggie, especially if you updated WordPress. If you're unsure that you're running the latest version, you can check your theme's version by navigating to Appearance > Themes and making note of the version number next to the theme. You can check if your theme's version matches the latest version by checking the changelogs for each theme:
If you're sure you're running the latest version of the theme, it's also good to check that you're running the latest version of WordPress. You can check to see if you're running the latest version by navigating to Dashboard > Updates. If you don't see the text "You have the latest version of WordPress", then you'll need to update WordPress to the latest version.
This is the most common issue we face. Many times, outdated or poorly coded plugins will break the theme's functionality. Deactivate all plugins momentarily and see if the problem persists. By deactivating all plugins, you can determine if a plugin is causing the issues on your site.
Often times, issues are simply a misunderstanding of theme functionality. Check the documentation included with your theme for step-by-step instructions that may clarify the functionality of the theme and how it works.
If you're still experiencing issues, it's possible that the theme didn't download correctly. Try reinstalling the theme to make sure it's not an incomplete installation issue. This can often happen with FTP programs, where files are sometimes missed on upload. If you're installing via FTP, try installing via the WordPress dashboard instead. Be sure to backup your theme files and WordPress database before reinstalling.
It's also possible that WordPress didn't properly install. You can try reinstalling WordPress by navigating to Dashboard > Updates and clicking "Reinstall Now". Be sure to backup your theme files and WordPress database before reinstalling.
